Elli E. Bourlai
My work as a Computational Linguist and Data Analysis Consultant focuses on Text Analytics or Text Mining. More specifically, I am working on improving Sentiment Analysis and Named Entity Recognition by leveraging linguistic information hidden in text patterns.
My work is informed by my research in Computer-mediated Communication: using Natural Language Processing to study discourse and social identity, as well as the collection and design of corpora. My doctoral thesis explores gender in computer-mediated discourse from a diachronic viewpoint. Other research interests include data science, social tagging, multimodality, social media mining, social informatics, and the relationship of gender and computerization/technology.
